10 Most MADDENING Bosses In SoulsBorne Games

7. Demon Of Hatred (Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice)

The first Sekiro entry on this list, the Demon of Hatred was named after the emotions he generates in the player. (Fun fact*: his original name was Demon of Hatred, Disbelief and You've Got To Be F**ing Sh**ting Me, but the developers couldn't get it to fit in the text box).

But it's not just the Monster of Loathing's sky-high difficulty that earns him a place on this list. What makes this fight doubly mind-breaking is that beating the Fiend of Resentment requires the player to unlearn the tactics that brought them to this point. Sekiro's combat is built on parrying your opponents, but you simply can't do that to the Devil of Hostility (last one, I promise). Instead, you have to dodge around him and whittle away at all three of his health bars until he falls.

And the kicker? He's completely optional. Which means that the hours of misery and frustration spent banging your head against this adamantine wall of difficulty until it crumbles are completely unnecessary.

To quote the UK's patron saints of self-loathing, Radiohead: "You do it to yourself, you do, and that's what really hurts".

*Not a fact
