10 Most MADDENING Bosses In SoulsBorne Games

5. Sister Friede (Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel)

Nuns. Why did it have to be nuns?

Quick history lesson: When Dark Souls III came out in 2016, it was initially derided by hardcore fans for a relatively low difficulty (emphasis very much placed on the word 'relatively'). FromSoftware obviously heard those rumblings of discontent, as DS3's first expansion pack was a doozy. Ashes of Ariandel is a monstrously tough chunk of DLC to chew on, and its capped off with one of the most difficult SoulsBorne bosses ever to make a player headbutt their controller in anger.

Whereas most bosses in the third Dark Souls have two distinct phases, Sister Friede has three. So you can imagine the gut-wrenching disbelief felt when, after Friede falls for a second time, she resurrects herself for a third go on the merry-go-round of your rapidly degrading sanity. And if you guessed that this third phase was the toughest of the lot, congratulations! You are now on the same wavelength as the sadists who designed the damn thing. Please report yourself to the nearest government building for registration.

Sister Friede is a three-course serving of utter misery, served up with a wimple and an attitude of withering contempt towards the player. As such, she's the perfect rebuttal to those who wished on their monkey paws for Dark Souls III to provide a stiffer challenge.
