10 Most Memorable Side-Quests In RPG Game History

2. The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Anju And Kafei's Wedding Side-Quest

The Legend Of Zelda series has prided itself on delivering a memorable gaming experience for every single one of their games. Majora's mask was a welcome addition in that the game is almost an entire side-story to the main Zelda folklore. This meant that Majora's mask's main story really isn't that long or expansive, so extra effort was put into the numerous little side-quests and mini-games. And boy does that effort show. Between collecting masks, heart containers, and killing enough skulltulas to decimate the spider population, the real jewel of Majora's mask is intricate Anju and Kafei's wedding side-quest. Taking place over Majora's mask's 3-day cycle, Link is tasked by Anju to locate her runaway groom, Kafei. Whilst this sounds simple enough, what unfolds is a lengthy quest that reveals the meet-cute love story of Anju and Kafei, fleshes out numerous minor NPCs and their role in Anju and Kafei's relationship, the sad truth behind Kafei's disappearance and his new child-like appearance, and the tear-jerking reunion of Anju and Kafei just seconds before the moon crashes to the ground. The fact that this quest ends on such a bittersweet note means that the stakes are even higher for Link to stop Majora's mask, meaning that this side-quest accomplishes the very difficult task of creating its own memorable self-contained narrative whilst strengthening the main narrative.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
