10 Most Memorable Side-Quests In RPG Game History

6. Fallout: New Vegas - Come Fly With Me

After giving players the gem that was Fallout 3 and the Capital Wasteland, Bethesda followed that up with the equally awesome Fallout New Vegas and the Mojave Wasteland. The overlying green hued wasteland of Fallout 3 was replaced with an even bigger desert wasteland with twice the quirkiness and countless side-quests. Of the many, many side-quests in New Vegas, it is the 'Come Fly With Me' side-quest that combines the best of Fallout's signature humor with an awesome self-contained narrative. The mission involves helping a bunch of delusional ghouls clean out a heap of mutants from a rocket launch site in preparation for a space launch using obsolete rocket technology. The description itself is pretty damn great but the actual mission is better. First you have to fight through swathes of mutants, culminating with a giant mutant sub-boss with a massive sword. Next involves building the space shuttle for the ghouls, before finally launching said space shuttle. But the grand cherry on top is the hilarious final cut-scene in which all the space-ghouls pile into the space shuttles and the rockets are launched. Just prior to this scene the player is able to tinker with the rocket's trajectory for their own amusement. Regardless of what option is taken, the shuttles will all crash back down to Earth mere seconds later, giving us a classic funny Fallout moment.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
