5. The Original Mario Kart Theme

Amongst many things contributing to Mario Kart's decades-long charm is Soya Oka's catchy main theme, from its delightfully playful first appearance in the 1992 debut, through to its chill AF Mario Kart remix and Saturday Night Live jazz apex in Mario Kart 8. But, according to the leaks, it could have been very different.

An early build showed that once over, in addition to a few unused tracks and there criminally being no ability to drift, Mario Kart's main theme was once a slightly eldritch music box ditty. The placeholder track is dreamy, but it hardly gets the engines revving.
