8. Mario Tennis Aces

Granted, there are few holding up the latest Mario Tennis game as one of 2018's greatest, but even so, critics went surprisingly easy on it considering the frustrating lack of launch content for the price.

The core gameplay is enjoyable enough, but it inescapably feels like a bare bones package quickly rushed out to capitalise on the Nintendo Switch's surprise success last year.

That's not to forget the inadequate online functionality - an absolute deal-breaker in a game like this - and a single-player Adventure Mode which ultimately proved more frustrating than enjoyable.

If you bought this day one, there's a solid chance it's spent the last few months collecting dust on your shelf, because there's just so little here to justify a AAA price tag. A rental if there ever was one.
