7. Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 is a textbook example of a well-crafted yet totally forgettable AAA blockbuster which delivers the basic, expected goods and not a whole lot else.

Unless you're especially fond of the series - and confession time, this player isn't - or have a strong stomach for repetition, Ubisoft's latest open-world shooter is just a bit...flat?

There are a few semi-bold attempts to present a more ambiguous and intriguing story than before, though the villains pale in comparison to the series' best, there are some wild tonal shifts, and it's once again too reliant on the player deriving fun from the ever-dubious "emergent gameplay."

Co-op is admittedly a blast and Hope County sure looks nice, but this is most certainly a wheel-spinning entry into a franchise that desperately needs a radical reinvention. Intermittently enjoyable, but is that really enough for an 80+ Metascore? Hmm.
