10 Most Painful Video Game Cliffhangers EVER

2. Dead Space 3: Awakened

When a game ends on a pretty nasty cliffhanger already, only for its DLC to rectify that cliffhanger and then somehow give you an even NASTIER one.

Yes, Dead Space 3: Awakened's hair-raising ending has now left the series on a confusingly sour note.

After defeating the Tau Volantis moon, Isaac Clarke and John Carver are caught up in the chaos and sent plummeting down into the snowy mists of the planet's atmosphere. Ellie Langford, presuming them dead, leaves them behind and heads back to Earth.

By the power of plot armour, however, they're not just alive, there's not even a scratch on them when they come to!

Isaac and John fight their way through more hordes of Necromorphs (and a few cultists thrown in for good measure), eventually making it back to the Terra Nova and escaping the godforsaken place for good.

Of course, as Isaac is the unluckiest man in existence, the trouble isn't over here. When they get back to Earth, they see it to be completely surrounded by Brethren Moons, and as one ascends right in front of the ship, the two men cry out, and the screen cuts to black.

A good cliffhanger on its own, you might think, but then when you remember that Visceral Games is now no more, it seems as if the Dead Space series went along with it, meaning those seeking closure for this particular cliffhanger will continue to be left sorely disappointed.
