2. Giraffe Watching - The Last Of Us

There aren't many moments of genuine serenity in The Last of Us. When you're not chopping cannibals to bits or bashing in the brains of fungus-infected humans you're suffering through harsh winters and struggling to survive, so when one such moment did raise its head late in the game, you bet everyone just put the controller down and basked in the purity of the scene.

For the most part there isn't much life in Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic landscape, with animals in particular being surprisingly absent for most of the title. When you come across as bunch of giraffes then, seemingly untouched by the horrors around them, it's a reminder that there is still beauty left in the world.

The game prompts you to hit a button to observe the animals while they wander into the distance, and you can stay there as long as you want before returning to the hardships ahead of you.
