In Tomb Raider Underworld, Lara’s mission to rescue her mother from Avalon takes her on a quest through the underworlds of various cultures around the world, but all of them are hiding parts of the God Thor’s equipment: his gauntlets, belt and finally the hammer itself.

Lara journeys around the world to Thailand, Mexico and many more locations to collect these artefacts, which she needs to give her strength to wield the hammer. With them in her possession she finally gets hold of Mjolnir and is able to open the Norse Underworld of Helheim after creating a brief alliance with Natla.

Once inside, Lara discovers the strength of Mjolnir, which allows her to use fight her way through Helheim with no problem and take down even the biggest groups of thralls and the scariest Yeti with ease. In the Underworld, she is finally reunited with her mother, who has been transformed into a thrall and is forced to kill her.

Moments later she is betrayed by Natla, who tells Lara the shocking truth about her dealings with her father and then attempts to trigger the Midgard Serpent, a giant, powerful machine that would destroy the world. Lara throws the hammer at Natla and both the Atlantean goddess and Mjolnir are lost in the eitr forever.
