At the beginning of Tomb Raider Legend, following a plane crash, Lara's mother is lost through a mysterious portal. The incident shapes Lara's future and as she grows up, Lara becomes determined to find a way to bring her mother back. Her research leads her to discover another portal and that there is an artefact that will open it.

The artefact in question is the legendary sword of King Arthur. The King had carried the sword until his death, when it was then split into fragments and buried in locations around the world. Lara travels to these far-flung locations, searching for the shards of the legendary weapon which she hopes to restore in order to open a portal to save her mother.

With all of the pieces in her possession, Lara discovers that the brooch her mother wore was the special Ghalali Key, which she needed to reforge the sword in order to open the portal. Thankfully it had been dropped in the tomb in Nepal.

Once restored, the sword proves to be a dangerous weapon as well as the key to the portal. It is able to shoot blasts of energy and also grants its wielder powers of regeneration.

It's currently unknown where Excalibur is. Some theorise it's in a museum but most believe the artefact stayed in Lara's trophy room where she could keep it safe and make sure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

Simon is a writer, cat dad and presenter of a geeky radio show with his husband. He loves Doctor Who (except 10 who can get in the bin…only joking.) He idolises Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lara Croft and would 100% be a Sith Lord in a galaxy far, far away. He wishes life was like a musical so he’d actually be a good singer.
