Starting off, we have Assassin's Creed 2; while the series may be feeling rather tired nowadays, the second mainline release generated a considerable amount of fandom upon its 2009 release. A lot of that came down to the charismatic and likeable man at its centre.

In the very first mission, Ezio Auditore da Firenze and his fellow rapscallions get into a fight with his rival Vieri De Pazzi on a bridge. As the title puts it so eloquently: "Boys will be boys" and AC2 kicks off with gusto.

From the word go, Ezio is shown to be a real scrapper and the unarmed combat remains a viable option throughout the game. You're given quite a few options for dishing out the fisticuffs. Basic punch, strong punch and a grab that leads to a headbutt, throw or knee are all at your disposal in combat.

Once you unlock the counter moves, things get even more ruthless. Ezio can land a flurry of punches to the enemy's chest or a vertical knock-out to the face. He may be an assassin out to kill, but seeing an entire room of heavily armoured guards writhing in pain on the floor brought a certain level of player satisfaction.
