7. Marvel's Spider-Man - Stylish Takedowns

One of Marvel's most popular characters has had a regular slew of video games. With Insomniac Games, his finest outing was unleashed to the masses in 2018.

Spider-Man's combat style is heavily tied to his agility; he's always darting all around the combat arenas and laying on quick attacks. Insomniac Games captured this brilliantly in the PS4 game, taking inspiration from the Batman Arkham games with its combo system. Like those titles, the hero at its centre doesn't hold back.

The webhead can web-sling into punches, swing kick enemies in mid-air and trigger fantastic-looking takedowns. Making full use of his acrobatics for a dramatic finish, Spidey flips over the bad guys and either delivers a knee or fist or slams the thugs onto the concrete with considerable force. Either that, or he's kicking them off the edge of a building to web them to the side of it afterwards.

There was a lot of fighting to be done in Spider-Man PS4. Despite not outright killing any of New York's worst, Spider-Man PS4 was still violent enough to bag a 16 rating here in the UK for its violence. The consistent close camera angles that book-ended the conclusion of combat encounters were always a thrill to watch.
