10 Most Promising New Video Game IPs Coming In 2016
6. Quantum Break (XBO)
Remedy Entertainment are one of the most under-appreciated developers in the business, having proven themselves with games like Max Payne and Alan Wake to excel at story-writing and unique action-oriented gameplay that's unafraid to do things a little differently. In Remedy's upcoming game Quantum Break you play as Jack Joyce, who has the ability to manipulate time - freezing his enemies, reversing their bullets, and essentially teleporting around to perform superhero-esque takedowns. Joyce gained these abilities as a result of a time-travel experiment gone wrong. His goal is to take down the villainous Paul Serene, who also became endowed with time-warping powers in the botched experiment. Based on Remedy's record and what we've seen so far, Quantum Break will deliver on imaginative third-person gunplay, but what makes it particularly intriguing is that it's going to be released episodically and interwoven with a live-action TV series. This is no daytime-soap stuff either, as the series will star some big names like Aidan "Littlefinger" Gillen as main antagonist Serene, Shawn "Iceman" Ashmore as Joyce and Dominic "Merry" Monaghan as Joyce's brother. The show will apparently adapt to the decisions you make throughout the game, though we're yet to fully see how this works in practice. Such a video-game/TV fusion is ambitious to be sure, and we can't wait to see it come to fruition.
