10 Most Ridiculous Things You Did For Gaming
5. Investing Too Much Time In A Custom Character
Hot Take: With the exception of MMORPG's, the character customization model in video games might be one of the most arbitrary and pointless efforts we as gamers have embarked upon.
Games like Tony Hawks', Guitar Hero and even some FPS platforms, gave players the opportunity to model their lead protagonist to look how they would want to. And while it might be an insignificant thing, it wasn't worth us spending lengthy amounts of time trying to find a generic hair-style that mimicked our own.
The immersion of most games is to make us feel like WE ourselves are the protagonists, but also, did we really care that much? Customizing skills and stats for our character were an important because that way we were playing Fallout or Mass Effect in the vein we wanted - but asking us to subconsciously care about the clothes our SIMS characters wore bordered on obsessive.
Maybe tailoring a virtual persona to mimic our own was what got us through most games, but in all honesty - we could wear inflatable hot dog costumes with flashing neon lights. It wouldn't make a difference since we never see the physical form of our Halo characters.
