10 Most Sacrilegious Video Game Movie Moments

5. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within - Having Nothing To Do With The Games

When Squaresoft broke into the 32bit era of the PlayStation and onwards, they were renowned for the quality of their full motion video cutscenes.

"Make a movie!", the fans cried. So they did, and when it came out, the fans went, "Oh... no. Not like that".

The Spirits Within, from a technical standpoint, was incredible. Taking four years to create, it looked like a visual spectacle that we hadn't seen before. But when you look past the gorgeous visuals, this particular Final Fantasy wasn't really anything to do with its namesake.

Now, most Final Fantasies are standalone games, with some elements connecting them like a Cid in each one, Summons/Espers and the planet(s) of Gaia. Whilst the film did use the planet as a similar motif, that... was about it.

A whole cast of A-list actors doing voiceover work may all be well and good, but to the fans of the games, there was little to relate to.
