10 Most Satisfying Final Boss Kills In Gaming History

7. Dark Beast Ganon - The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

A case of a game so confident in its player, you're not given any lengthy tutorial or hand-holdy prompts throughout.

Instead, every ability you need to defeat Ganon is provided in the opening 20 minutes, and Link's more advanced techniques are things you'll figure out along the way.

This whole process is masterfully done, and before long you'll realise that targeting in mid-air kicks the game into slow-motion, or that accurate shield swipes can reflect laser beams back at mechanical guardians.

You can surf on Link's shield, throw a near-broken weapon for double damage or leave a metal weapon on the ground in a lightning storm for a massively devastating group attack.

All of this creates a heroic mindset of inventiveness and improvisation naturally, leading to the realisation that you'll fight Ganon when YOU are ready.

Defeating his first form is easy enough, but once he mutates into the skyscraper-sized Dark Beast Ganon, you'll need to get your thinking cap on.

Realising his own energy blasts create an updraft you can ride to target his weak spot is just genius, and planting one right between the eyes as the music crescendos and your adventure concludes is my personal favourite moment of the current generation.
