In an announcement that just about nobody saw coming, Capcom revealed the existence of Resident Evil 7 at Sony's E3 2016 presser.

With its first-person perspective, the gameplay demo didn't feel remotely like the Resident Evil fans knew, with many assuming it was simply a new horror IP.

But the house was well and truly brought down when the game's title appeared on-screen, confirming the next chapter in the Resident Evil series was going first-person, would be entirely playable in VR, and best of all, would be hitting stores barely seven months later.

The fact that it managed to succeed as both a perspective-shifting retooling for the series and a must-play VR experience makes it one of the most successful follow-throughs on an incredible E3 reveal ever.
