10 Most Shocking E3 Reveals EVER
3. Metroid Prime 4 Is Real (E3 2017)
Though Nintendo has shied away from E3 stage shows in recent years, their E3-adjacent Nintendo Directs have served as fine substitutes.
In 2017, Nintendo brought the house down when, mid-way through their E3 Direct, they dropped a 40-second teaser trailer confirming that Metroid Prime 4 was now in development for the Nintendo Switch.
It was nothing more than a logo that some intern probably cooked up in an afternoon, but considering that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption came out all the way back in 2007 and many fans had long since given up on a mainline sequel, its confirmation was hugely exciting (and relieving).
The flip-side, though, is that Nintendo clearly made the announcement far too early simply to get fans off their back, given that we still haven't seen a shred of gameplay four years later, and development was reportedly restarted from scratch in 2019.
