10 Most Shocking E3 Reveals EVER

Arguably the single strongest performance from any major company in E3 history was Sony's "Year of Dreams" in 2015, where they dropped three megaton reveals that ensured they "won" that year's event.

The conference started strong by reintroducing Team Ico's The Last Guardian, which was first revealed way back at E3 2009 as a PS3 game and had now been reworked for PS4.

Better still, they actually kept to the announced "2016" release date this time, albeit only barely, given that the game finally launched in the first week of December 2016.

Mid-way through the show, Sony unveiled perhaps the single biggest feat of wish-fulfillment E3 has ever seen, with a CGI reveal trailer for the mythic Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Fans had been requesting it for years, and it was now finally confirmed, though with its eventual April 2020 release, they did probably announce it a bit too early.

And to complete the trifecta of insanity, mere minutes later it was announced that Shenmue III was finally going to happen, albeit with the cheeky help of some Kickstarter funding. It eventually released in November 2019 to wildly mixed reviews.

Though two of these three games were ultimately fairly divisive, there's no topping the utter, unadulterated hype of these reveals. It's entirely possible no E3 show will ever get close to this level of crowd-pleasing surprise ever again.
