After learning from their mistakes and getting over the teething problems that came with launching Broken Age, Double Fine returned to crowd-funding in order to kickstart production on a sequel to the cult-classic Psychonauts. Opting to use Fig this time instead of Kickstarter, the goal was to achieve the same massive success of their previous title, setting a target of $3.3 million.

In they end, the team hit around $4 million from that campaign alone, gaining another $8 million from Starbreeze studios to help publish the game across all platforms.

While development is allegedly going more smoothly than Broken Age's, the originally-targeted 2018 release has been altered to 2019 now the platformer is in full production. Still, while that might seem like cause to worry, with the amount of support the game has behind it, as well as the lessons the devs have learned from crowd-funding in the past, Psychonauts 2 should shape up to be a pretty great sequel.
