10 Most Terrifying Horror Game Enemies Of The Generation

3. Wendigo - Until Dawn

Until Dawn is a gorgeous game that turns horror tropes on their head, features a metric tonne of jump scares and some fantastic one liners to go with them, specifically when Mike says “Scared the blue out of my jeans.” Gets me everytime. Spoiler alert if you haven’t gotten to the end of it yet but partway through you learn that there’s far more going on than it seems.

When an elaborate prank is revealed you breathe a sigh of relief but that relief doesn’t last long as you quickly learn of the games’ primary foes, the Wendigo.

Wendigo lore is creepy enough, as they’re deceased people who cannibalise others. But factor in that you’re playing as a bunch of largely defenceless kids who can all die if you make the wrong choices and the ante is severely upped. Adding extra tension to the already horrifying character design is the gameplay mechanic that forces you to stay completely still to avoid detection by these sight-poor beasties. This results in you needing to hold the controller completely still despite what’s happening on screen, or if you’re a big baby who doesn't want anybody to die like me, just put it down and wait til the stealth encounter is over.
