Finishing off the list, we come to the driving force behind one of 2022's most under-rated games. (If you have yet to play Immortality you may want to hop off at this point, as it's a story worth experiencing on its own terms).

Immortality is an FMV game that tasks you with piecing together disparate fragments of movie footage to find out the fate of an actress named Marissa Marcel. The plot goes in some truly mind-blowing directions, but it's all anchored by a mysterious entity named The One - a fascinating and multifaceted monster, portrayed beautifully by the perfect actress for the role.

The One turns out to be an immortal creature who consumes her victims and takes their form - as she did with Marissa Marcel herself. Much of the game's plot comes from The One's determination to create an everlasting piece of art using Marissa's form, leading to one of the most arresting endings scenes committed to any piece of media.

While The One is a great character in and of herself, special mention has to be made of actress Charlotta Mohlin's sterling efforts in bringing her to life. Charlotta plays the role of an undying superbeing with a remarkable amount of heart, and The One's dawning realization at what her quest will ultimately cost her is brought home in heartbreaking fashion by the thespian's award-worthy acting.

It's rare for a monster to be worth the price of admission on its own, but that's undeniably the case here.
