Remember that 'one button graphics switch' the Halo remasters have? How it was really, truly awesome to see how much work the developers had put in and hop through time at the touch of a button?

Wonder Boy has that, and it's phenomenal. A complete visual overhaul of the 1989 original, the game itself is a side-scroller with a number of uber-cool character-swapping elements, but the real visual knockout is just watching it in motion.

Now THAT is how you modernise an old classic.

Onto gameplay, and although you'll start as the titular Wonder Boy (or Wonder Girl) with access to a standard block and attack, over the game you body-swap into the fire-spitting Lizard-Man, climbing Mouse-Man or the flying Hawk-Man for example, giving some much-needed variety to levels.

As the perfect way to modernise an older game, this hybrid of Disney-style animation and old-school immortal charm is an immaculate fit on Nintendo's flagship console.
