7. Puyo Puyo Tetris

A sign of things to come if more developers can make peace and combine their finest works, Puyo Puyo Tetris is (somewhat obviously) everybody's favourite tetronimo-based line-clearer, paired with the 'connect four' delights of Puyo Puyo.

The thing here though, is while you can play each game on its own (like some 'two-for-one' bundle) off and online, the unique aspect of PPT is the combinative 'Swap' mode where both games act as one. You're then tasked with establishing lines in Tetris or groups of colour in Puyo, knowing a countdown timer will relegate your active game screen into the background.

However, any falling pieces will still connect and activate whilst you work on the now-active game mode, meaning you can pull off combinations in both games simultaneously, creating a nightmare of triggered power-ups for your opponent to deal with.

That may all sound very complicated, but once you get your head around how it works, Puyo Puyo Tetris is one phenomenal step in a very interesting direction.
