Though discussed often in the Undertale fandom, this couple hasn't really gotten a ton of mainstream attention. Which is a shame, considering how impeccably written it is. Underneath all the crazy meta commentary, skeleton puns and talking flowers, Undertale is a game about relationships. They drive the whole story, and are ultiamtely the biggest motivation for the player, just seeing all the wacky monsters become friends and either die horribly or live happily ever after. One of the standout relationships is that between Undyne, the captain of the royal guard and lovably crazy fish-woman, and Alyphys, the royal scientist and shut-in anime fangirl. When first introduced, the two just seem like very good friends, often referring to one another in conversation, and calling one another across the underground on their phones. But as the true pacifist run of the game unfolds, you learn that their feelings run deeper than just friendship, and player helps set them up on what may be gaming's best date ever. Their romantic arc isn't so much about the two of them falling in love, they already cared for each other long before the story began, but rather the two of them maturing to the point where they are ready to actually have a relationship. Undyne learns to calm down and let go of her hatred of humans, and Alphys learns to get over her own self-hatred to open herself up to others. These two are just too precious.
