10 Most Underrated Weapons In Gaming
5. The Wrench: BioShock
For many
first-time players of classic FPS BioShock, the Wrench appears to be the
epitome of a very-early-game desperation melee weapon. How long could something
like this retain its use against the formidable Splicer hordes of Rapture? To
the shock of many, possibly for the entire game.
Of course, BioShock equips the player with an enormous arsenal of weaponry. From conventional firearms to an array of creative and deadly Plasmids (Insect Swarm being particularly brutal), there’s a lot of super fun loadout experimentation to be done (especially when upgrades and Tonic effects are considered too).
The humble Wrench, however, just gets so many buffs that it can be all a player needs. Completing research tasks for the Bouncer will provide a huge boost to its damage output, while Tonics such as Blood Lust, Armored Shell, Sports Boost, Wrench Jockey and Wrench Lurker increase your survivability, damage output and otherwise encourage a melee playstyle.
With no resources in terms of ammo to worry about, the Wrench’s only real downside is its obvious requirement that enemies are engaged up close and personal (though Plasmids are on hand to help mitigate the dangers of this).
