10 Moves PlayStation MUST Make
5. Make State Of Play More Interesting
The shoddy "State" (ho ho) of Sony's address to gamers is indicative of the arrogance that currently pervades the company.
Sony's State of Play is the company's take on Nintendo Direct, i.e. a straight-to-youtube showcase of upcoming games for their hardware. Except whereas each Nintendo Direct is imparted a sense of fun and personality by its presenters (as seen in the recent Direct's adorkable Switch Sports section), Sony's State of Play is a relatively joyless experience.
Each State of Play boils down to a bored-sounding voice-over joylessly listing off upcoming games with all the passion and humour of a supply teacher reading the register of their least-favourite class. It may seem a minor complaint, but each lacklustre State of Play further reinforces the idea that Sony believe they can throw anything they want at their audience and have it lapped up, regardless of the quality or effort levels applied.
