10 Movies Which Tried To Capture The Essence Of Gaming

1. Scott Pilgrim Vs The World

Director Edgar Wright already knows a thing or two about making movies which appeal to the fanboys - Shaun of the Dead is one of the greatest parodies not only of the zombie genre but horror movies in general, mining it for every possible reference and gag. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World sees Wright working from a graphic novel about the titular teenage rocker who has to battle against a string of ex-boyfriends in order to win the girl he loves, Ramona. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is clearly the work of a fan of the material and Edgar Wright obviously understands his target audience. Indeed, fans of comic books and video games were rightly not disappointed. Merging a comic book and video game-style aesthetic into a film has been tried before, but Wright hits the nail on the head - the fight scenes (of which there are plenty) are perfectly infused with a combination of eye-popping classic beat em up visuals. Like Shaun of the Dead, there's plenty of fun to be had rewatching Scott Pilgrim and seeing how many other gaming references you can spot. Are there any other movies you can think of which have tried to capture the essence of gaming? Why not let us know in the comments below?
