10 Movies Which Tried To Capture The Essence Of Gaming

2. Wreck-It Ralph

Thirty years after releasing Tron, Walt Disney Studios returned to the concept of video gaming once again for Wreck-It Ralph, this time choosing to mash up as many genres as they possibly could, from the retro games of old to the cutting edge first person shooters of today. The eponymous arcade game character Ralph might be cast as a villain in his game but all he wants to do is become the hero - if this sounds like standard Disney fare, that's probably because it is, but fortunately a strong script and a healthy dose of visual gags throughout help the film rise above the generic. It probably helped having a veteran of The Simpsons and Futurama holding the reigns - Wreck-It Ralph's strongest point for gamers is in the wealth of details and references scattered from start to finish.
