10. The Lawnmower Man

Just like video games, writer Stephen King has had something of a shaky relationship with the big screen - while some movie adaptations of his books have been great (who doesn't like The Shawshank Redemption?) many of them are pretty awful. Combine Stephen King with the concept of inhabiting virtual realities and a video game-like visual style in a movie and the results are, well, pretty tragic. Telling the story of mad scientist Dr. Lawrence Angelo (Pierce Brosnan) who is experimenting with intelligence enhancement, it's an entirely predictable spin on the tale of Frankenstein, with Jeff Fahey playing the mentally unstable man representing Frankenstein's monster. On its release in 1992, most critics rightly lambasted it for its terrible screenplay, but many of them praised the computer graphics, describing them as "dazzling" and "visually stunning". All we can say is that it hasn't aged well in the slightest...
