10 Mundane But Incredibly Useful Items In Dungeons And Dragons

3. Block And Tackle

This is a little bit of a rarer item than others on the list. It is not available in any of the packs, but there’s no reason that you couldn’t buy it at an artisan’s shop or on the docks. You’ve got your rope from the previous entry, now you can combine it with one of these, but what does it do?

The block and tackle is a simple pulley system that allows you to lift more weight than you usually could. An average human in Dungeons and Dragon can comfortably carry around 150 pounds of weight. A block and tackle will allow you to times this number by four; suddenly an average man can lift 600 pounds. Wow! But that is just an average man.

Let’s say we have a Goliath player character with 18 strength. With the racial ability of powerful build, they can carry 540 pounds or just over one US ton with a block and tackle. Yes, that is ridiculous. If you have someone like this in your party, don’t bother going through that dangerous cave with your boat: just hoist the thing over the mountain.
