10 MUST-PLAY Video Game Spin-Offs
5. Mega Man X Franchise
For many years, the Mega Man franchise was an immensely popular title on the Nintendo Entertainment System, offering up some of most brutally challenging and entertaining platforming action on the console. With new hardware on the way, it was time for an upgrade and in 1993 with four mainline games under its belt, Capcom made the transition with Mega Man X. With a story that followed on from the originals and a heap of new gameplay components, it proved to be a stellar new direction for the series to take.
Just about everything about the Mega Man X series was a brilliant upgrade, taking full advantage of the SNES hardware to take its source material to the next level. X would be the first spin-off in the long-running series and would lay the groundwork for other experiments such as the Battle Network series. It had its ups and downs, but the Mega Man X franchise remains incredibly popular within the fanbase. While we haven't gotten a new entry since 2005, the series did make a return in 2018 with the X Legacy Collection.
