10 MUST-PLAY Video Game Spin-Offs
3. Daxter
Throughout the PlayStation 2's lifestyle, the Jak and Daxter series was a constant presence with its colourful landscapes and engaging gameplay. The series grew darker with Jak 2: Renegade, and Jak 3 making a further impact as the trilogy came to a close. But there was one gap missing in the series: not much focus on Daxter. For the whole trilogy, he rode around on his partner's back, mostly making quips and snide remarks. But in contrast to Clank in the Ratchet and Clank series, he didn't do all that much.
Ready at Dawn, consulting Naughty Dog, filled in this gap with the release of Daxter in 2006. This PSP exclusive boasted some brilliant platforming gameplay outside of the main Jak series. It also filled in a gap in the story, with Daxter getting by as a Haven City pest exterminator while his pal remained in prison. Daxter isn't just a great spin-off in the Jak series, it stood as one the best games on the PSP. It maintained the charm and challenge of 3D platformers when so many others were dumbing down the genre. As the only game to give the orange ottsel a starring role, Daxter's adventure is still an enjoyable ride.
