10 New Game Plus Modes That Changed EVERYTHING
3. Have Everyone Remember What You Did - Undertale
Undertale is a game that is notorious for having mastered making you feel real emotions through the medium of pixel people. Kind, loving pixel people - that you might have accidentally sort of killed all of if you didn't realise from the get go that every fight in the game has a pacifist option to beat it.
Plenty of people likely realised their mistake halfway through the game, and, feeling guilty as hell, restarted promptly. That said, many also no doubt slugged their way to the end, only to also feel pretty bad about accidentally doing a needless homicide, and so decided to try and restart the game also.
Undertale knows you'll do this. It wants you to do this. It's also going to rip you a new one for doing this.
Starting a new game creates new dialogue - largely centred around the first character you meet, Flowey, and reminding you of all the ways you just messed up.
Cruelly, even if you tried to pacifist the game the first time around, you still won't unlock the good ending, meaning you have to accept this new game plus negging to finally save the day.
Players can unlock a "proper" reset by finishing the good ending, but given you're cursing the characters to restart everything all over again, it's implicitly cruel to do so.
