10 Nintendo Games To Keep You Happy Until The Next Metroid
7. Shantae
Another neat little game for the Gameboy, Shantae has a lot more in common with the core Metroid formula than Wario does. You play as the half genie Shantae and travel across Sequin Land to fight pirates and defend your hometown (that's some Oscar worthy stuff right there).
As per the Metroidvania way, it's an open world with areas that you'll have to come back to explore again once you've gained new abilities. However, instead of morph balls and power bombs, Shantae learns dances which can transform her into magical creatures. For example, once dance turns you into a monkey to reach high up platforms, while another another allows you to fly.
There's also a pretty cool day/night cycle, with some items only available at night, and a cool hair whip attack. Proto Bayonetta? Probably not. Anyway, you can grab Shantae on the 3DS eShop, and it's well worth a look.
