10 NPCs That Broke Video Games

Even after five years of patching and hotfixing, Fallout 76 is still a buggy mess. However, none of the issues you may encounter in the game nowadays are even remotely as terrible as this one glitch from 2020, which caused random NPCs to rob you in broad daylight.

It may sound crazy, but back in 2020, every NPC in the game, including your companions, had the ability to take all of your rare and expensive gear once you died. The player could see them equipping it, but there was no way of getting it back, as killing the NPCs wouldn't cause their bodies to drop the stolen gear.

Suffice to say, the glitched NPCs became an absolute nuisance on Fallout 76's servers. Players reported losing rare items they acquired through hours of grinding as well as special gear they had purchased from the game's store with real-life currency. The issue became so widespread that, at some point, Bethesda had to shut down its servers and look for a way to fix it.

The NPCs' kleptomania was eventually resolved, but its legacy remained. It's hard to look your allies' in the eyes after they callously took your favorite rifle from you and never apologized.
