10 Obscure Games You Might Not Have Tried

4. Any Of The Serious Sam Games

serious sam You know how I said earlier that Painkiller was a great example of a throwback 90s shooter? Well, this is the series that has perfected it. The two original games, Serious Sam: The First Encounter and Serious Sam: The Second Encounter, are still great games, and are optimised to run on low end computers, so even if you have a really old Windows XP rig, no worries, they will work on it. If PC gaming isn't your thing, both Encounters were released for the original Xbox together as just Serious Sam. If those old, rather dated looking graphics start to become an eyesore to you after a while, they released two HD remakes of the games that look simply gorgeous, and have gameplay additions that make it even more fun. And there's always Serious Sam 2 and 3. Serious Sam 2 seems to be the black sheep of the games, with it's over the top, colourful, and cartoony graphics, and general childish demeanor. But I don't care, I love all of them, and if you're looking for some hard-as-nails, OTT 90s shooter action, this is one serious series you shouldn't miss out on. (Okay, here we go.) Both classic versions are on Steam and GOG.com for $5.99 and on the original Xbox as Serious Sam. Serious Sam II is on Steam for $9.99 and is also on the original Xbox. Serious Sam 3: BFE is on Steam for $39.99 and on the Xbox Live Arcade for 800 Microsoft Points. The HD remakes of The First Encounter and The Second Encounter are available on Steam for $14.99 and $19.99 respectively, and both are on the XBLA for 800 Microsoft Points. Did I get it all? Okay, good.

Born in London, England, James is a media sponge. He consumes media of all shapes and sizes, from movies, to games, to music. He'll take it all. Apart from spending most of his life surrounded by media (his parents are musicians and his brother is a writer), he has been writing film reviews professionally for almost two years, and spends most of his time watching films, playing video games, and generally being an extremely anti-social person. Luckily, that leaves him a lot of time to write articles, such as the ones you will see on this page. Enjoy!
