10 Obscure Video Game Endings You've Never Seen

1. The Live-Action Ending - The Witness

Tomb Raider Underworld
Thekla, Inc.

The Witness is one of the most intensely cerebral and ingeniously constructed puzzle games ever made, but beyond its fiendishly challenging design is a secret ending players can unlock right near the beginning.

After completing the game's first two puzzles, you'll enter a garden with a locked gate on the right. You can unlock this gate by lining the tall beam of light up with the sun, allowing the light to function as a line and let you complete the line puzzle on the gate.

Continue through here and you'll find yourself inside a hotel. Keep moving through it and you'll eventually enter a black expanse, which will soon enough trigger the secret ending.

The ending is an utterly bizarre eight-minute video that shows what appears to be the player themselves in live-action form, waking up from playing the game while hooked up to what may be a VR headset.

The person gets up, walks around their home, falls over, and then tinkers around their house as if trying to interact with the real world like it's the game. The individual then heads outside and sits down on their garden bench. The End.

It is, like everything else in The Witness, fascinatingly ambiguous, and yet the main game itself is so maddeningly attention-grabbing you couldn't really be blamed for failing to uncover this totally unhinged ending.
