10 Impossible Video Game Puzzles That Drove Us Insane
8. Discworld - The Fishmongers Belt
The Discworld point-and-click adventures from the 90s were famous for their great storylines, witty writing and colourful characters. Yet the aspects of these games that left the most long-lasting impression were their puzzles; trauma, after all, stays with you for life. The puzzles in Discworld mostly relied on combining items to create new items or trigger events that progressed the game. However, the item combinations that you're expected to concoct require an irrational, possibly drug-altered, mind to figure out. Chief among these is the puzzle where you must acquire a fishmonger's gold belt. Whereas in todays games youd either kill the guy or run an errand for him, in Discworld you grab a nearby octopus, tie its tentacles up with rope, and chuck it in a toilet that you then fill with an aphrodisiac custard. Next, you lace the fishmongers caviar with prunes to make him need to go to the loo, then pick up his belt after the lascivious octopus tries molesting the fishmonger to make him run away without his trousers. Who in the world - apart from Hitchhiker's Guide author Douglas Adams - thinks like that?
