10 Obvious Video Game Traps You Definitely Fell For
8. Anything With Patches - Dark Souls
"Trusty" Patches is the patron saint of characters who lead the player into obvious traps.
In the first Dark Souls, Patches will collapse a bridge while you are on it, and then kick you down a hole the next time he sees you just to rub it in. In the sequel, a suspiciously named 'Mild-Mannered Pate' subjects you to similar trickery, by convincing you to go in a series of dangerous areas.
In the third game, he amps his trickery up to eleven, and lowers you into a room with a bunch of enraged giants who will likely murder you in one hit the minute they aggro.
And yet, annoyingly, you're discouraged from just killing him the minute you realise he's near you, because if you play nice, he will become a merchant who sells premium items.
Patches is so iconic for his trickery that he even managed to make it into Bloodborne, the gothic brother of Dark Souls - and even then he's kind of messing with you. He's also has the body of a spider in this one, though, so he's clearly paid his moral dues for tricking you so many times.
