10 Obvious Video Game Traps (You Walked Into Anyway)

9. The Poisoned Ale - Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Tomb Raider Anniversary
Ubisoft

Given the sheer exhausting array of Things To Do in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, you can't be entirely blamed for taking up an NPC Bard on his invitation to join him and his pals to chug some thirst-quenching ale.

However, this many games into the franchise, you should probably know better than to trust even the most seemingly harmless of strangers, as in this case will result in your near-death.

One of the Norse warriors drinking with the Bard will challenge player character Eivor to a drinking contest, and whether you win or lose, at the end of the challenge all the warriors nearby will keel over dead, the ale having been poisoned by the Bard.

As it turns out, the Bard is grief-stricken following the death of his lover and has decided to kill as many Vikings as possible.

Even though players shouldn't have too much trouble taking the Bard down for the count, their gut should've told them not to sup the ale.

After all, listen closely to the Bard's lyrics as you approach him and he even eerily sings, "So drink thy ale and drink it fast, who knows if it may be your last!"
