10 Of E3's Worst Video Game Showcases Yet
9. Xbox's Project Natal, 2009
2009 is the year everyone wanted to get in on the Nintendo Wii's action. Nintendo was raking in cash like it was going out of style, so Sony and Microsoft both unveiled their takes on motion controllers.
Microsoft's take on motion controls looked revolutionary. Project Natal, a 3D motion-sensing camera, promised a future of games without controllers, positing an early look into our current motion-driven VR gaming landscape, and had huge implications for the future of technology in general.
But it all fell apart pretty fast. The moment creative director Kudo Tsunai tried to show the back of his virtual foot, his avatar bugged out in a weird dance move that sent his virtual fist through his virtual chest. Couple that with games about painting and bending over to imitate an elephant, what was poised as a revolution got silly-looking in a hurry.
One game in particular, Project Milo, looked like a stunningly smart AI using spacial recognition to play and interact with you. Sadly, nothing came of it, and rumors have abounded that it wasn't even real in the first place.
