10 Of E3's Worst Video Game Showcases Yet
2. Nintendo's Wii Music Reveal, 2008
Nintendo's 2008 show was the result of firing their guns far too early. The Wii had just had a spectacular year- console defining games like Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, and Metroid Prime 3 had already launched, putting Nintendo in a precarious position for big game reveals.
Instead, they had to put out a selection of games geared for the casual audience Wii Sports had roped in. While Wii Sports: Resort and the brand new Motion Plus adapter proved popular, others such as the Wii Speak adapter, a strange device for full-room chat, failed to light the world on fire.
But none was as awkward, stilted, or just down right terrible as Wii Music. The big reveal of the show, Wii Music was a bombastic mess of noise as the private party DJ, Ravi Drums, flung his hands over a virtual invisible drumset.
At the same time, legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto stood on stage and played a fake synthetic saxophone via the Wii Remote, playing something that barely resembled music to a crowd that mostly wished it was anywhere but here right now.
