Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege was developed and released by Ubisoft as an online tactical FPS back in December 2015, but has somehow managed to carve out a purple patch for itself over the past year or so. With the usual attacker vs. defender teams and various modes such as hostage rescue, taking objective points or bomb defusal, Rainbow Six places a large amount of emphasis on team collaboration and blasting away as much of the environment as they can.

Ubisoft went to great lengths to make the game feel as immersive and real as possible, consulting with real-life counter-terrorism units and looking at historical sieges to bring a gritty amount of strategy to things.

But, even though reception to the game has always been solid enough, sales of the game were initially well below expectations following its release in 2015. Credit to Ubisoft however and the player base at the time who were able to work out new free DLC and a 'game as a service' model that allowed both parties to remain happy with Ubisoft able to cash in on the free to play model, and players getting a steady stream of high quality content.

With the game's players sticking with things, 2019 saw a peak in players for Rainbow Six when it passed 45 million registered users across all platforms.
