10 One-Of-A-Kind Horror Video Games
3. Mundaun
Artistic horror games are often hit or miss, as at times they are profound, meaningful explorations of the genre, but at others, they can be frustratingly pretentious and difficult to invest in.
Thankfully for this title, it quickly falls into the former category as beneath the surface of the utterly unique art style is a compelling horror experience full of great scares and challenges.
The game puts you in the shoes of a man named Curdin, as he travels to his grandfather's hometown to visit his funeral. But, upon arriving, he realises his grandfather's body is not where it should be. This leads him on a mission to discover the truth of this sinister town by travelling to the top of a mountain.
Its gameplay is enthralling, as while it has a simple environmental puzzle set-up, the enemies are challenging, you need to think outside of the box, and you are required to remain conscious of your items to progress.
Still, Mundaun's most significant selling point is the aesthetic. The developers chose to texture the land and characters with sketchbook drawings, making the game look like an artistic fever dream come to life.
This gives it an utterly macabre and gothic vibe unlike anything you've ever played before.
