P.T. shook the gaming world upon its release, which is fascinating as on paper, you'd never expect that. If you told someone that a game where you walk around the same corridor for roughly an hour (depending on how well you navigate it) was the scariest game of 2014, they'd rightfully laugh you out of the room. But, this playable teaser indeed did that, and it blew the internet's mind.
The short game placed you into the home of a family who had clearly been struck by tragedy. You would move through the hallway in a constant loop, solving environmental puzzles to move on with the game. Eventually, upon completion, it was revealed that the title was just the teaser for a new Silent Hill game.
Besides approaching advertisement in a unique new way, P.T. was one of a kind thanks to its unique premise. It was also deliberately obtuse in its puzzles to encourage collaboration between players via the internet, which led to it feeling like a joint experience between gamers all over the world.
Sadly, the scariest thing about this game is that the final product never actually hit shelves due to conflict between Hideo Kojima and Konami. As a result, it will forever be the one that got away.
