10 Open World Video Game Secrets You Never Found
8. Ghost Ship - the Witcher 3
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is widely considered to be one of the best games of all time and one of the most popular open worlds to ever be created. The beautiful environments include mystical forests, snowy mountains and large settlements. As with most open world games, secrets, Easter eggs and references are plentiful.
Much like Skyrim's headless horseman, this particular encounter can only be sighted during specific hours. Just after 1 AM off the coast of Skellige, Geralt can encounter a ghostly ship rise from the depths, sailing around before submerging once more. The translucent vessel cannot be boarded however and there are no visible passengers to behold.
Many of us have spent hundreds of hours playing the fantasy epic without ever encountering the spooky sight, due to the very short window and specific time the ship appears. Developer CD Projekt Red actually tweeted about the ship on the game's 11th anniversary, introducing the secret to many players who never realized it existed.
This ship is actually referenced in the spin-off card game, Gwent with it's own card, which reveals the name of the mysterious vessel. The ship is called The Flying Redanian, likely a reference to the legendary ghost ship, The Flying Dutchman.
