10 Outdated Video Game Design Tropes That Must Die In 2017
3. Unskippable End Credits
Just like films and TV shows, video games include a credits sequence to make sure everyone who worked on its creation gets the recognition they deserve.
Understandably, these credits are longer due to more people working on games compared to other things, so most games either let you skip them, or include some form of gameplay or extra content to enjoy whilst they roll on by.
Assassin’s Creed 2 included a section that let you control Desmond in the modern day, whilst Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare let you listen to messages of the characters that had died during the campaign, for example.
However, some games still don’t let you skip the end credits. Have you ever been stopped from leaving the cinema before the credits had finished? (Being forced to wait by Marvel doesn’t count), and does your TV lock the channel until the show is totally over?
Forcing players to sit through 20 minutes of names with nothing else to do is just irritating. Even worse, thanks to the Marvel effect of having bonus scenes at the end of the credits, many games have started doing it as well, meaning many fans feel compelled to wait through the credits just in case there is something at the end.
