And finally, the granddaddy of WTF content in video games belongs, unsurprisingly, to Silent Hill 2.

Because it's not enough for Konami's survival horror sequel to be a gut-wrenching meditation on guilt, it also offers up a glue-sniffingly demented secret ending for committed players to seek out.

Firstly, you need to have unlocked three regular endings - "Leave," "In Water," and "Maria" - or just have the "Rebirth" ending unlocked on a second playthrough.

Load your save file with these conditions fulfilled and start a new game. Then head to Rosewater Park and out to the nearby yard, where you'll find a doghouse with a key in it.

The key can be used to open the Observation Room on 3F of the Nightmare Lakeview Hotel, once you've viewed the video tape in Room 312.

This will trigger an unspeakably bizarre ending video where a Shiba Inu dog is revealed to have been behind the game's events all along, to which protagonist James inexplicably says in Japanese, "So it was all your work!"

The game then abruptly rolls credits with a piece of music comprised primarily of pitch-adjusted dog barks. Yup. Of all the horrifying sights the Silent Hill franchise has given us over the years, this just might be the most haunting.
